What is mastery?

What is mastery?

So you’ve signed up for this course and you’re probably wondering, what the h*ck is mastery anyways? And what does it have to do with diversity, equity and inclusion?

Mastery is a concept that comes from the field of education, and it’s fundamental to learning. Learning, so that you can integrate new knowledge and concepts, and apply to real world scenarios.

Masterly learning allows learners (i.e., YOU) to move at your own place, as you “master” knowledge, skills and competencies. This approach involves breaking down larger, complex and often gnarly learning goals into smaller pieces. Ultimately, this approach is powerful in helping learners integrate new concepts and see how they are reflected in the world.

Afterall, what’s the point of learning, if you can’t use it?!?

How is this course structured?

This entire course is module-based and thematic.

  • Module-based means that each section is standalone and doesn’t depend on completion of modules that come before it.
  • Thematic approach allows you to practice DEI-concepts in ways that mimic real world application.

Each module contains a set of activities designed to help you become more aware and comfortable with using new vocabulary, learn new concepts and frameworks, and build confidence to put diversity, equity, and inclusion to work.

Within each module are conversation prompts for working with colleagues, ERG groups, DEI council, friends and even family members.

⚠️ Note: Just like binge watching shows leads to little retention of what happened in which season to what character in the show - running through learning content at a fast pace leads to very little retention or stickiness.

It’s important to actually take time, have conversations, try new ways of working, watch a recommended show, series or listen to podcasts.
